APG Shimla University’s School of Sciences, School of Allied Sciences, and Pharmacy Department jointly celebrated National Science Day on Friday at the university’s auditorium. The theme for the year 2025, declared by the central government, is “Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for a Developed India.”.
The university’s faculty members and students presented research papers on the theme, highlighting the importance of science and innovation in India’s development. The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Anand Mohan Sharma, Dean of Academics, who was the chief guest. Chief guest Prof. Dr. Sharma, in his address, emphasized the need for students to go beyond textbooks and acquire knowledge from all the fields. “The youths should think creatively, innovate, and strive for excellence in their respective fields,” said Prof. Dr. Anand Mohan Sharma. Prof. Anand Mohan said that National Science Day was celebrated to commemorate the discovery of the Raman effect. National Science Day is celebrated every year on February 28 to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect by renowned physicist Sir C.V. Raman in 1928 at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science in Kolkata.
He was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930 for this groundbreaking discovery. “The National Science Day is celebrated across the country with theme-based science communication activities. The first celebration was held on February 28, 1987, and since then, it has become a tradition to inspire generations,” said Prof. Anand Sharma. Prof. Anand Sharma said that this year’s theme is “Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for a Developed India.” It emphasizes the role of young minds in advancing India’s scientific and technological progress, aligning with the vision of a developed and self-reliant India by 2047. “The main objective of celebrating National Science Day is to spread the message about the importance of science and its applications among the people.
It is celebrated as one of the major science festivals in India every year,” said Prof. Anand Mohan Sharma. Prof. Sharma added that this day aims to widely disseminate the message about the importance of scientific applications in daily life, showcase all activities, efforts, and achievements in the field of science for human welfare, discuss all subjects for the development of science, and implement new technologies, as well as popularize science and technology among the people.
The event also featured posters, science models, science photography competitions, and essay writing, which were organized by the students of the Science, Allied Sciences, and Pharmacy departments. The students showcased their creative ideas and knowledge through science posters, science models, and research papers on new innovations in science and threw light on the research of great scientist CV Raman and other great scientists of the world, including India. This program attended by Prof. Atul Dube, Head of the Department of Allied Sciences, Dr. Devika Rana, Prof. Lalit Kumar, Head of the Pharmacy Department, Dr. Ankita Thakur, Registrar, Manish Agarwal, Joint Registrar, Afzal Khan, Controller of Examinations, and various faculty members and professors from different departments.
Prof. Atul Dube proposed the vote of thanks and appreciated the innovative ideas and research presented by the students. He also thanked the chief guest, Prof. Dr. Anand Mohan Sharma, for inspiring the students to innovate and strive for excellence.
