Daisy Thakur says soldiers guarding the nation’s borders are an integral part of every Indian family
Shimla, August 28: The Himachal Pradesh BJP Mahila Morcha celebrated Raksha Bandhan with soldiers at ARTRAC in Shimla on Friday, with women workers tying rakhis on the wrists of Army personnel and expressing gratitude for their service to the nation.
The programme, organised near St Thomas School, was marked by patriotic fervour and emotional warmth. BJP Mahila Morcha Himachal Pradesh president Daisy Thakur attended the event as the chief guest.
Women leaders and workers of the Mahila Morcha applied tilak on the soldiers, tied the sacred thread on their wrists and offered them sweets while wishing them good health, safety and a long life.
Thakur said the sacrifices and dedication of soldiers enable people across the country to celebrate festivals peacefully and live safely with their families.
“Our soldiers, whether deployed on the borders or serving the nation in any other capacity, are an integral part of our national family. It is a matter of pride and an emotional moment for us to tie rakhis to our soldier brothers on Raksha Bandhan,” she said.
Describing the rakhi as more than just a thread, Thakur said it symbolises affection, trust, respect and protection. She said the gesture also conveyed the message that society and the nation stand firmly with the country’s brave soldiers.
“When a soldier stays hundreds or thousands of kilometres away from his family to fulfil his duty towards the nation, his sacrifice and dedication cannot be expressed in words. Our soldiers work in difficult conditions, adverse weather and challenging circumstances to ensure the security of the country,” she said.
Thakur added that respecting the country’s armed forces was the duty of every citizen.
She said festivals in Indian culture serve as a means of strengthening relationships and social unity. Raksha Bandhan, she added, carries a message of duty, security, trust and mutual respect, apart from celebrating the sacred bond between brothers and sisters.
“The Mahila Morcha wants to use this occasion to further strengthen the spirit of patriotism, social harmony and respect for our soldiers,” Thakur said.
She extended Raksha Bandhan greetings to soldiers and the people of the state, saying the courage, sacrifice and dedication of the country’s armed forces would always remain a source of inspiration.
