Lectures, science exhibition and competitions mark the occasion at the School of Sciences
Baddi: National Science Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and scientific spirit at Baddi University of Emerging Sciences and Technology (BUEST) on February 27, 2026 by the School of Sciences. This year’s theme, “Women in Science: Catalyzing Viksit Bharat,” highlighted the transformative role of women in STEM fields in accelerating India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.
The programme was graced by Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) J. K. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of the university. Prof. (Dr.) Swaran Lata, former Professor at CSK Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University, Palampur, and Prof. (Dr.) Khushmeet Kumar, Registrar, attended the event as Guests of Honour. Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members and students from various schools were also present.

The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp followed by a welcome address emphasizing the significance of National Science Day and the importance of encouraging women’s participation in scientific research and innovation.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Ashok Kumar, Associate Dean (Students and Academics), NITTTR Chandigarh. In his address, he highlighted the important contributions of women scientists in areas such as healthcare innovation, climate action, space exploration, agriculture, digital transformation and sustainable technologies. He encouraged students, particularly young women, to actively pursue careers in science and research.
In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) J. K. Sharma emphasized that the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 cannot be achieved without strong participation of women in science and technology. He stressed the need for supportive academic environments, equal opportunities, research fellowships and leadership roles for women in scientific fields.
The celebration also featured a science exhibition where students presented innovative models and displays on themes such as green chemistry, nanotechnology, renewable energy, biodiversity, spectroscopy, organic farming, solar system and women-led innovations in science.
In addition, group discussions were conducted on topics including the role of women in Viksit Bharat, the impact of artificial intelligence and the influence of social media on well-being. A quiz competition on basic science, general knowledge and current affairs related to National Science Day was also organized.
A special “Fun with Science” segment attracted significant attention with engaging demonstrations such as the chemical chameleon reaction, elephant toothpaste experiment and dry ice effects, making scientific concepts interactive and enjoyable for participants.
The Vice-Chancellor and other dignitaries visited the exhibition stalls, interacted with students and appreciated their innovative ideas and enthusiasm. Certificates were distributed to winners and participants of various competitions.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Nidhi Gupta, Associate Dean (School of Sciences), and later by Event Coordinator Dr. Sarvjeet Kaur, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, Guests of Honour, faculty members, organizing team and students for making the celebration a grand success.
The programme served as an inspiring platform to promote scientific temper and highlight the crucial role of women in shaping India’s scientific and technological future.
