Shimla:
BJP State President Dr. Rajeev Bindal has welcomed the verdict of the Hon’ble Himachal Pradesh High Court on Panchayati Raj elections and launched a sharp attack on the Congress government and the Chief Minister. He said that the decision delivered by the Hon’ble High Court is in the larger interest of the people of rural Himachal Pradesh, strengthens democracy, and is fully in consonance with the spirit of the Constitution. The verdict has been widely welcomed and appreciated by the people across the state.
Dr. Bindal said that, in contrast, the comments made by the Hon’ble Chief Minister on the High Court’s decision are extremely unfortunate, objectionable, and undermine the dignity of the judiciary. The language and choice of words used are tantamount to contempt of the Hon’ble High Court. Such remarks not only show disregard for constitutional institutions but also strike at the very foundations of democratic values.
The BJP State President stated that it is no secret that the Himachal Pradesh State Election Commission had completed all preparations to hold Panchayati Raj elections during December–January. Despite this, the Congress government, acting against democracy and the Panchayati Raj system, made every possible attempt to delay the elections. When the matter reached the Hon’ble High Court, the Court delivered a clear, firm, and decisive verdict in favour of the people, democracy, and the Constitution.
Dr. Bindal said that making unwarranted comments on the High Court’s verdict is not in the interest of the state. Such statements amount to an attempt to interfere with the functioning of the judiciary, which the BJP will never accept. He demanded that the Congress government respect the orders of the Court, abandon politics of obstruction in democratic processes, and ensure that Panchayati Raj elections are conducted in a timely, free, and fair manner.
He reiterated that the Bharatiya Janata Party stands firmly with democracy, the Constitution, and the voice of rural Himachal, and will not allow the Congress government to weaken the Panchayati Raj system under any circumstances.
