The Himachal Pradesh government has made it clear that domestic consumers of the state will continue to get free electricity up to 125 units every month as before. Putting an end to the speculations on this, the government has released new rates of electricity subsidy.
The state government has announced it will give a subsidy to 22 lakh domestic consumers. However, after the Electricity Regulatory Commission reduced the rates by 15 paise per unit, the government also reduced the subsidy amount in the same proportion. That is, the previously fixed rates for 2024-25 will remain applicable this year as well.
At the same time, consumers consuming more than 300 units of electricity have gotten a big shock. The government has abolished the subsidy of Rs 1 per unit given to consumers of this category. Now they will have to pay at the rate of Rs 5.90 per unit. Energy Secretary Rakesh Kanwar has sent a letter to the Managing Director of Electricity Board Sandeep Kumar in this regard and issued instructions. Electricity bills for April’s consumption will be issued in May according to these new rates.
Apart from this, there is relief news for commercial and industrial consumers as well. Commercial rates have been reduced by 12 paise per unit and industrial rates by 20 paise per unit. However, no change has been made in the fixed demand charge.
