Shimla: Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap on Monday said that properties acquired through drug trafficking will be investigated and strict action will be taken against those involved.
Chairing the district-level monthly NCORD meeting via video conferencing, the DC reviewed anti-drug initiatives and directed officials to intensify efforts against narcotics in Shimla district. He asked revenue officials to submit reports on individuals involved in drug trade, enabling authorities to probe and act against illegally acquired assets.
He said the district police has been doing commendable work, recently busting a major drug racket. Emphasising coordinated action, he directed all departments to support police by sharing timely information, especially for financial investigations related to drug networks.
The Deputy Commissioner also stressed the need to create awareness among students about the Drug Free Himachal App in schools and colleges. He said awareness activities should be documented and committees must be formed in areas where they are yet to be established.
Keeping in view the upcoming Panchayati Raj elections, he instructed the Excise Department to maintain strict vigilance on illegal liquor and stocking. He added that continuous meetings with stakeholders should be held to move towards a drug-free society.
Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh said that strict action is being taken under NDPS cases and interstate drug networks are being busted. He noted that financial investigations need to be expedited with timely support from the revenue department to enable attachment of properties linked to drug trade.
He also urged citizens to report drug-related activities through the Drug Free Himachal App, assuring that the identity of informants remains completely confidential.
Officials said the NCORD committee is working on both social and legal fronts to curb drug abuse, promote awareness among youth, and strengthen rehabilitation and treatment facilities in the district.
