Solan:
Deputy Commissioner Manmohan Sharma chaired a review meeting of the District Water and Sanitation Mission under the Jal Jeevan Mission and directed officials to ensure the availability of clean and safe drinking water across the district.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed the Jal Shakti Department to conduct periodic inspections and testing of traditional water sources. He directed that field testing kits be regularly provided to all gram panchayats to maintain water quality standards. He also asked concerned departments to periodically test drinking water quality in hotels, dhabas, and restaurants.
He further directed the Health Department and the Jal Shakti Department to regularly inspect drinking water storage tanks and ensure proper cleanliness by adding adequate bleaching powder when required.
Manmohan Sharma informed that a Diarrhoea-Free Campaign will be conducted in the district from March 16 to March 31, 2026, during which intensive awareness and sanitation drives will be organised in both urban and rural areas. Officials were directed to educate the public about diarrhoea prevention and water-borne diseases.
The Deputy Commissioner also asked the Jal Shakti Department to explore the feasibility of installing RO plants at traditional water sources to provide quality drinking water. He urged educational institutions, Anganwadi centres, health institutions, government offices, and residents to ensure cleaning of rooftop water tanks by March 31, 2026.
During the meeting, it was informed that out of 101 projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission in the district, 87 have been completed, while work on the remaining 14 is in progress. Under the Har Ghar Jal Certification initiative, 1,624 villages in the district have been certified.
Out of 1,769 projects in Solan district, geotagging has been completed for 1,747 projects, and work on the remaining projects is underway.
Senior officials from the Jal Shakti Department, Health and Family Welfare Department, Panchayati Raj institutions, and other departments were present at the meeting.
