In Himachal Pradesh, lakhs of employees will be able to avail insurance benefits of Rs 5 lakh by paying an annual premium of Rs 200. The state government has notified the insurance scheme for regular, contract, daily wage earners and part-timers. The premium for this has not been increased even after five years. In the year 2020, this premium was increased from Rs 80 to Rs 200 annually. In 2019, an annual premium of Rs 80 was charged, but at that time there was a provision of insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh on death and Rs 1 lakh on disability. For this, a deduction of Rs 200 will be made from the salary and wages of each employee being paid on the 2nd of November.
Institutional Finance Director Rohit Jamwal said that Himachal Pradesh government has announced the renewal of Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme for government employees. This scheme gives financial assistance to employees and their families in case of sudden death or disability. All regular, ad-hoc, part-time, contractual and daily wage employees of government departments, boards, corporations, universities, autonomous bodies in the state will be covered under this scheme. This plan gives coverage for 24 hours and covers accidents occurring anywhere.
It covers death caused due to accidents, drowning, floods, landslides, snake bites, earthquakes and cyclones while at home, at work, while traveling or during any other activity. Additionally it also covers permanent total disability and partial disability arising out of accidents. Its benefit will be that employees will get Rs 5 lakh on death due to accident, Rs 5 lakh on permanent total disability, Rs 2 lakh on loss of a limb or eye. Death claims will require documents such as FIR, post mortem report, death certificate and legal heir certificate. For disability claims, there will be treatment and disability certificate. This will be settled by the Head of the Department after confirming its eligibility. Compensation will be paid to the nominee or legal heirs of the deceased employee.
