Shimla, February 3:
The unhygienic conditions at the old bus stand in Shimla have once again sparked concern among commuters and local vendors, as garbage heaps and scattered waste continue to mar the busy transit point.
Passengers waiting for buses on Tuesday morning expressed dissatisfaction over piles of uncollected trash near the premises. The accumulated waste, along with overflowing bins, has reportedly led to foul smell and inconvenience for travelers, especially during peak hours.
Shopkeepers operating near the bus stand said that irregular lifting of garbage and lack of proper monitoring have worsened the situation. “Tourists and daily commuters pass through this area. Such conditions create a poor impression of the city,” a local vendor said.
The old bus stand, managed under the supervision of authorities including the Himachal Road Transport Corporation, witnesses heavy footfall daily. Commuters have urged the Municipal Corporation and concerned departments to ensure regular cleaning and proper waste management to maintain hygiene at the public transport hub.
Residents have demanded immediate action, stating that consistent sanitation measures are essential to prevent health hazards and uphold the city’s image as a major tourist destination.
