The tragic accident in Jholo village of Naldhera Panchayat in the Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh saddened the entire village. 70-year-old Geeta Devi and her 21-year-old granddaughter Varsha died after being hit by stones falling from a JCB while leveling the field.
The accident happened around 1:00 pm, when Geeta Devi and Varsha had gone to cut grass below the field. At the same time, large stones fell down the hill from the JCB working to level the field. The local people tried to warn them by making noise, but due to the high speed of the stones, both of them could not control themselves and died on the spot.
Varsha’s body was found stuck in the bushes towards the drain, which was very difficult to remove. Varsha was a B.Com final-year student in college. As soon as the information about the accident was received, the police and Panchayat Pradhan Sushma Kashyap reached the spot. The bodies were taken to IGMC Hospital for post-mortem. Additional SP Ratan Singh Negi said that negligence in this accident will be investigated and strict action will be taken against the culprits.
There is an atmosphere of mourning in the village due to this tragic incident. A mountain of sorrow has fallen on the family. The untimely deaths of Geeta Devi and Varsha have shocked the entire community. The Panchayat Pradhan has expressed deep condolences on the incident and has appealed to the administration to provide help to the victim’s family as soon as possible.
