Shimla, May 15. On the occasion of the conclusion of the four-day training camp at HIPA under the capacity building program of the Drug Free India Campaign, Himachal Forum Against Drug Abuse discussed the drug-free Panchayat and Municipal elections campaign and appealed to the members of various organizations who had come for the training to make voters aware through this campaign.
In the concluding session of the training, HFADA Chairman, retired Additional Chief Secretary Deepak Sanan, discussed the ill effects of drugs used in elections and said that elections create a new consumer group suffering from drug addiction.
State Secretary Satyawan Pundir stated that the HFADA launched a statewide campaign calling for drug-free Panchayat Raj and municipal elections on April 15. As part of this campaign, the Mandi Literacy Committee and the Himachal Knowledge Science Committee jointly printed over ten thousand pamphlets and appealed for drug-free elections in panchayats and urban areas, as well as on various platforms.
On the occasion of completion of training in HIPA, posters and pamphlets of drug-free election campaign were released and pamphlets were distributed to various organizations.
Vijay Kumar, Executive Director of Gunjan Sanstha, pointed out that while the state government is striving for a drug-free Himachal, the path to drug addiction lies through smoking, alcohol, and hashish consumption. He added that if we want a healthy and safe Himachal, we must ban drug abuse on all occasions, especially during elections. Only then will we be able to protect our youth and future.
Present on the occasion were Satyawan Pundir, Vijay Kumar and Prof. Sachin from the Forum’s organisational partner Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti and technical partner Gunjan Sanstha.
HIPA deliberated extensively on the campaign for a drug-free India.
