Snowfall has brought intense cold to Himachal Pradesh. Wednesday night was the season’s coldest night so far. The mercury plummeted to several degrees below zero in the higher reaches of the state, while dense fog enveloped the plains this morning. Tabo in Lahaul-Spiti district was the coldest place in the state, recording a minimum temperature of minus 5.5 degrees Celsius, a drop of 3.3 degrees from the previous day.
According to the Meteorological Department, Keylong, the headquarters of Lahaul-Spiti, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.2 degrees Celsius, and Kukumseri recorded a low of minus 2.1 degrees Celsius. Kalpa in Kinnaur district recorded a minimum temperature of 0.2 degrees Celsius, Reckong Peo 4.1 degrees Celsius, and Narkanda in Shimla 4.9 degrees Celsius. The state’s average minimum temperature was 0.7 degrees Celsius below normal, increasing the extreme cold in the hilly areas.
The cold has also affected other major areas in the state. The minimum temperature was recorded at 5.9 degrees Celsius in Manali, 8.4 degrees Celsius in Shimla, 9.6 degrees Celsius in Sundernagar, 7.1 degrees Celsius in Bhuntar, 10.4 degrees Celsius in Dharamshala, 11.7 degrees Celsius in Una, 12.6 degrees Celsius in Nahan, 7.6 degrees Celsius in Solan, 6.7 degrees Celsius in Kufri, 6.1 degrees Celsius in Bharmour, 6.5 degrees Celsius in Seobagh, and 9.9 degrees Celsius in Hamirpur.
According to the Meteorological Department, light snowfall occurred in Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, and other high-altitude areas last night. Meanwhile, dense fog enveloped the plains of Bilaspur and Sundernagar on Thursday morning, reducing visibility to 100 meters and causing difficulties for motorists.
According to the department, the weather in Himachal will remain dry and clear until November 12th. However, further increase in cold is expected in the morning and evening.
