Shimla: Months after the Himachal Pradesh government issued a notification paving the way for payments to Class IV pensioners, Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) is yet to implement the decision, triggering growing resentment among retired employees.
University Pensioners Association General Secretary Nagendra Gupta and President Bishan Singh Chandel, in a joint statement, alleged that despite the government notification being issued months ago, the university administration has failed to take the necessary action to release the pending payments.
The pensioners said the delay has caused considerable hardship and frustration among retired Class IV employees, who have been waiting for their legitimate dues. They questioned why the university administration has failed to implement the government directive within a reasonable timeframe.
According to the association leaders, retired employees seeking information from the university are also not receiving a clear response. They alleged that even the Finance Officer has failed to provide a definite timeline regarding implementation of the notification and release of the pending payments.
The pensioners said repeated delays have deepened their anger against the university administration. They warned that if the pending payments are not released soon, retired employees will intensify their protest.
The association has warned that pensioners will gherao the university administration in the coming days if immediate action is not taken. The leaders demanded that the university implement the government notification without further delay and ensure that all eligible Class IV pensioners receive their pending payments.
