Shimla: A delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party led by Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur met Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Lok Bhawan and submitted a memorandum alleging interference in the lawful action of Delhi Police in connection with the AI Impact Summit 2026 incident.
Speaking to the media after meeting the Governor, Thakur said that the AI Impact Summit, held under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, enhanced India’s global stature. However, he alleged that certain Youth Congress leaders attempted to tarnish the country’s image through an objectionable protest during the event. He further claimed that the protest was carried out at the behest of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.
Thakur stated that after an FIR was registered in Delhi, Delhi Police initiated legal proceedings. He alleged that some accused were given shelter in Himachal Pradesh and that room bookings were arranged through the Chief Minister’s Office. According to him, Delhi Police were attempting to secure CCTV DVR footage and related documents from a hotel, which he claimed could expose those involved in the alleged conspiracy.
He said Delhi Police arrested three accused from the Chanshal Valley area in Rohru. Later, in Dharampur, Delhi Police were allegedly stopped and an FIR of kidnapping was registered against them despite their possession of legal documents and transit remand orders. Thakur claimed that the situation led to nearly 24 hours of confrontation, placing the police forces of two states face-to-face, which he described as a direct blow to the federal structure.
The Leader of Opposition demanded a high-level independent inquiry into the entire episode, including an investigation into the role of the Chief Minister’s Office. He urged strict action against officials and individuals found responsible.
Thakur said the issue was not merely about arrests but concerned India’s international reputation and the rule of law. Several MLAs, former ministers and party office-bearers were present in the delegation.
