Mandi
In a significant achievement for rural healthcare, the Civil Hospital in Karsog has secured second place in the Kayakalp Awards (Category-2) across the state, reflecting sustained improvements in public health services. The hospital has been awarded a cash incentive of ₹5 lakh, which will be utilized to further strengthen healthcare delivery. Meanwhile, PHC Churag in Mandi district secured the first position and received a ₹2 lakh reward.
Strengthened Healthcare Through Specialist Services
Located in a remote region, Civil Hospital Karsog has evolved into a well-equipped healthcare center with specialist doctors in medicine, gynecology, surgery, orthopedics, dental care, psychiatry, and pediatrics. The recent appointment of a radiologist has enabled the launch of ultrasound services, alongside digital X-ray facilities, a new X-ray machine, and a proposed CT scan unit, significantly enhancing diagnostic capabilities.
Advanced Care for Critical Patients
The introduction of ventilator support and a dedicated ICU ward with modern beds has enabled life-saving treatment at the local level. Trained staff and the availability of an Advanced Life Support ambulance ensure prompt and safe emergency care.
Special Focus on Newborn Care
A Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) is being established with an investment of approximately ₹50 lakh, equipped with advanced medical devices. The 12-bed facility will provide high-quality neonatal care locally, reducing the need for referrals.
Digital and Transparent Health Services
The hospital has implemented computerized prescriptions, online registration, and ABHA ID-based patient records. Digitized X-ray services now allow patients to access reports on their mobile phones. Additionally, daily health bulletins covering OPD, IPD, and emergency services are issued to ensure transparency and public trust.
Patient Convenience and Public Awareness
A token system has streamlined OPD services, while 24×7 emergency care, separate registration counters, and routine health check-up programs are in place. Awareness campaigns on HIV, TB, and other diseases are also conducted regularly to promote community health.
Cleanliness and Quality Recognition
The Kayakalp Award recognition highlights the hospital’s commitment to cleanliness, infection control, and efficient management. This achievement is the result of the collective efforts of medical staff, administration, media, and the local community.
Dr. Gopal Chauhan, Block Medical Officer, Karsog, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and emphasized that continuous improvements are being made in line with state government directives. He noted that these efforts are ensuring accessible, high-quality healthcare services for people in the Karsog region, close to their homes.
