A lunar eclipse falling on March 3, 2026, could trigger political instability, leadership challenges and sharp shifts in public opinion, said Pandit Shashipal Dogra, president of Vashishtha Jyotish Sadan and a noted numerologist.
Dogra said the eclipse will occur on Tuesday, March 3, on the full moon day of Phalguna, from 3:20 pm to 6:47 pm, and will be visible in India. The eclipse falls under Purva Phalguni nakshatra in the zodiac sign Leo, which he described as sensitive for matters related to power, governance, administration and prestigious positions.
He added that the Sutak period will begin at 6:20 am on March 3. Temple doors will remain closed during this period. As per tradition, cutting nails, touching idols, eating unnecessary food and sleeping are avoided during Sutak and the eclipse period. However, children, elderly persons, the sick and pregnant women may eat or take medicines as required. Adding Kusha grass to milk, curd and pickles is also a customary practice during Sutak, he said.
Two eclipses in 15 days
Dogra said the lunar eclipse follows a solar eclipse on February 17, making it two eclipses within 15 days — a phase he termed “highly sensitive and turbulent” from an astrological perspective.
According to him, while a solar eclipse influences heads of state, governments and international relations, a lunar eclipse intensifies public sentiment, opposition activism and media exposure.
He expressed apprehension that national and state politics could witness intense confrontations, allegations, administrative reshuffles and even possible leadership changes during this period. Centre–state tensions may escalate, and political polarization over key legislations could deepen, he added.
Dogra further said judicial activism, action by investigative agencies or major revelations could significantly impact the political landscape.
Himachal may see organisational changes
Referring to Himachal Pradesh, he said the state may witness organisational restructuring, cabinet expansion or reshuffle, and even defections. Public pressure on issues such as employment, road connectivity, tourism and horticulture could intensify.
He also cautioned that extreme weather events, landslides or natural disturbances in hilly regions may test administrative preparedness and increase political accountability.
Numerology angle
Dogra said the date 3-3-2026 totals to the number seven, which in numerology symbolises mystery, hidden strategies and sudden revelations. He suggested that behind-the-scenes political manoeuvring may increase and reputations of prominent figures could come under scrutiny, while new leadership may emerge.
Overall, Dogra said the combined effect of the recent solar eclipse and the upcoming lunar eclipse points towards political rebalancing, policy shifts and sharp confrontations between ruling and opposition parties. He stressed that vigilance, transparency and foresight would be crucial for maintaining stability in the coming weeks.
