Shimla: The 10-day ‘Anti-Chitta Cricket Mahakumbh’, organized by NSUI Shimla Urban at Police Ground Bharari, concluded successfully today. Shimla Municipal Corporation Mayor Surender Chauhan attended the prize distribution ceremony as the chief guest. Chief Minister’s OSD Ritesh Kapret and Shimla Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, along with several other dignitaries, were also present on the occasion.
The cricket tournament was organized to spread awareness among youth against the rising drug menace, especially “chitta”. The event continued for 10 days and witnessed enthusiastic participation from 64 teams, showcasing strong sportsmanship.
Maddy-11 Chopal wins the final
In the final match, Maddy-11 Chopal faced Police Line Bharari. Batting first, Maddy-11 Chopal set a strong target of 122 runs. Chasing the target, Police Line Bharari managed to score only 52 runs in 8 overs. Maddy-11 Chopal secured a convincing 70-run victory and lifted the tournament trophy.
Sports important to keep youth away from drugs
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Surender Chauhan said that the tournament was organized following the directions of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to create awareness against chitta. He emphasized that such sporting events play a crucial role in keeping youth away from drugs and motivating them towards positive activities.
Development work planned for Bharari Ground
The Mayor also informed that the Shimla Municipal Corporation is making continuous efforts to develop Police Ground Bharari. Protective nets will be installed around the ground to ensure safe sporting activities. In addition, painting and beautification of the ground walls will also be carried out.
He added that a practice pitch for cricket players has already been prepared to provide better facilities for young athletes. Plans are also underway to develop volleyball and badminton courts at the ground to promote multiple sports.
NSUI expresses gratitude
NSUI Shimla Urban District President Hardik Bhandari expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, all participating teams, organizers, and supporters for making the tournament successful. He said that NSUI Shimla Urban will continue organizing such initiatives in the future to support youth development, protect student rights, and spread awareness against drugs.
