Chandigarh: A man allegedly posed as an MBBS doctor and sexually assaulted a 25-year-old woman working in an IT company, police said on Sunday. The accused, who is reportedly a Class 10 pass, also filmed a 25-minute video of the act and used it to blackmail the survivor.
According to the complaint, the two got in touch through social media a few months ago. The accused introduced himself as a well-qualified professional and claimed he was preparing to travel to the UK, gaining the woman’s trust. He also assured her of helping her secure a better job abroad.
Police said the accused gradually built rapport and convinced the woman to meet him. During the meeting, he allegedly forced himself on her and recorded the incident.
The survivor told police that the accused later used the video to threaten her and repeatedly called her to hotels, where he continued to sexually exploit her. He allegedly warned her of making the video viral if she resisted.
Following the complaint, police registered a case and arrested the accused. Further investigation is underway.
