Government Senior Secondary School, Mashobra, emerged as the all-round best school at the four-day Under-14 zonal sports competition for boys and girls of Mashobra block, which concluded at Government Senior Secondary School, Durgapur, on Sunday.
As many as 419 students from 18 schools participated in various sporting and cultural events during the competition.
According to Durgapur school principal Ashwani Kumar and sports in-charge Nand Lal Sharma, Mashobra won the volleyball title in the boys’ category, while Piran emerged victorious in the girls’ category. In kabaddi, HD School Janedghat won the boys’ title and RPS Baldeyan the girls’ title.
Piran school dominated kho-kho, winning the title in both boys’ and girls’ categories. Baldeyan school also secured both badminton titles.
Mashobra finished first in yoga in both categories, while Baldeyan won the girls’ rhythmic yoga event. MPM Mashobra topped the boys’ chess competition, while HD Janedghat won the girls’ title. In judo, Baldeyan emerged winner in the boys’ category and Mashobra in the girls’ category.
In cultural events, Piran won the boys’ speech competition and Baldeyan the girls’ event. MES Mashobra secured first position in the boys’ one-act play, while RPS Baldeyan won the girls’ category.
RPS Baldeyan topped the boys’ group song competition, while MPS Mashobra won the girls’ category. In folk dance, RPS Baldeyan emerged victorious among boys and Mashobra among girls.
Social worker Arun Chauhan was the chief guest at the closing ceremony, while Baldeyan ward Zila Parishad member Om Prakash Thakur attended as the guest of honour. The chief guest distributed prizes to the winners and students who delivered outstanding performances.
Welcoming the chief guest, Ashwani Kumar said arrangements had been made to ensure the smooth conduct of the competition. He also thanked various departments, participating schools, local residents and other stakeholders for their support.
Panchayat Samiti Mashobra chairman Tara Chand Thakur, BDC member Rita, Aroma Valley president Manvinder Singh, principals and physical education teachers from various schools, players and a large number of students were present at the closing ceremony.
