Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh emphasized the indispensable role of media in fortifying democracy while addressing the Pride of Solan event organized by First Verdict Media on Thursday.
Highlighting the power of responsible journalism, the Minister said that media serves as a crucial bridge between the government and the public by bringing pressing social concerns to the forefront and ensuring that welfare schemes reach the grassroots. He appreciated First Verdict Media for consistently spotlighting social issues and promoting public awareness.
Raising concern over the growing threat of drug abuse, Singh described addiction as one of the biggest challenges confronting society today. He stressed the urgent need for stringent action and collective responsibility to safeguard the youth from falling prey to narcotics. Calling upon citizens to actively participate in the fight, he said that eradicating drug addiction requires a united and sustained effort from all sections of society.
The Minister noted that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, a statewide public movement has been launched against the drug Chitta. An intensive campaign is being carried out across Himachal Pradesh to curb its spread. “The success of this movement depends on the cooperation and commitment of every citizen,” he added.
On the occasion, Anirudh Singh formally launched First Verdict Media’s anti-drug campaign titled ‘Chitte Ki Aisi Taisi’, reinforcing the collective resolve to make Himachal drug-free.
The event also witnessed the felicitation of 50 distinguished personalities from Solan district for their remarkable contributions in various fields, bringing pride to the region. Additionally, the Chief Minister’s message, ‘Chitta Free Himachal’, was broadcast during the programme, strengthening the call for a united stand against drug abuse.
