Chamba, Feb 27
A brief moment of protest unfolded at the ‘Sarkar Gaon Ke Dwar’ programme in Chamba when BJP MLA Dr. Janak Raj suddenly arrived at the venue and chose to sit on the ground among the public instead of taking a seat on the stage.
The legislator reached the programme around 1 pm and sat with the attendees, drawing immediate attention. Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repswal approached him and requested that he take his place on the dais, but the MLA initially declined. Later, District Market Committee chairman Lalit Thakur escorted him to the stage. Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania also urged him to join the dignitaries on stage, following which he agreed.
Speaking during the programme, Dr Janak Raj expressed displeasure over what he described as the indifferent attitude of certain officials towards elected representatives. He said some officers claim they do not listen to public representatives and are unaffected by their concerns.
Issuing a stern warning, he said that in a democratic country, the voices of elected representatives and the public must be heard. “If anyone feels otherwise, they are free to leave this country,” he remarked, adding that he would raise the matter in the Assembly.
The incident created a stir at the event and sparked discussions among attendees over coordination between public representatives and the administration.
