The Himachal Pradesh Forest Department released a field guide on the investigation and prosecution of forest and wildlife crimes during the concluding ceremony of Wildlife Week 2026.
Field Guide: A Field Manual for Investigation and Prosecution of Forest and Wildlife Offences, the publication has been co-authored by N. Ravishankar, Indian Forest Service (IFS), Deputy Conservator of Forests, and Dr Sanjay Sood, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force.
The guide serves as a practical reference for forest officers and field staff, covering the identification of offences, evidence collection, documentation, investigation procedures and legal requirements for prosecution. It aims to strengthen the capacity of field personnel to handle forest and wildlife crime cases efficiently and ensure compliance with relevant legal procedures.
The publication was unveiled in the presence of dignitaries and senior Forest Department officials. The initiative is aimed at improving enforcement, preventing forest and wildlife offences, and strengthening conservation efforts through more effective legal action.
