Solan
National Science Day for the year 2025 was celebrated at Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), Waknaghat, Solan with multifarious activities.
This year the NSD activities were planned in an exclusive offline mode where a poster and model presentation competition was organized along with a special session of declamation. This event was jointly organized by the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics and the Department of Physics and Materials Science, JUIT. NSDS-2025 was convened by Prof Tiratha Raj Singh and coordinated by Prof Anil Kant and Dr Ragini Raj Singh. Prof PB Barman and Prof Sudhir Kumar were program chairs. Honourable Vice-Chancellor of JUIT Prof RK Sharma along with Dean (Academics and Research) Prof AK Gupta and Registrar and dean of students Brig (Retd) RK Sharma, inaugurated the event. Dr Shashi Kumar, Group Leader, Metabolic Engineering and Dr Dinesh Gupta, Group leader, Translational Bioinformatics, ICGEB, New Delhi also joined the dice for the inauguration.
These two scientists were the keynote speakers of the event. Participants from various schools, colleges and universities of Himachal Pradesh joined this event. Posters, models, debates and declamations were evaluated by the teams of learned judges from various departments of JUIT which includes Prof Vineet Sharma, Prof Jata Shankar, Prof Gopal Bisht, Dr Udayabanu, Dr Poonam Sharma, Dr Saurabh Srivastava, Dr Saurabh Bansal, Dr Surajit Hazra, Dr Ashok Nadda, Dr Santu Baidya and Dr Tyson. This year again the event was partially financially supported by HIMCOSTE, government of HP along with JUIT and catalyzed by NCSTC, DST, government of India. It was technically sponsored by the Centre for Healthcare Technologies and Informatics (CEHTI), JUIT.
Model, poster and declamation competition winners were also awarded with certificates and attractive prizes. Winners for various competitions and in various categories were from Tagore Vanasthali Public School, Kasauli; Elite International School, Kandaghat, DWPS, Kandaghat; MRA DAV, Solan, Saraswati Vidhyamandir, Shimla, DIET, Solan; Bahara University, Waknaghat etc. A big deleagion came from Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya (RKMV), Shimla, (HP) under the guidance of Ms. Kartik Chauhan, Dean Sciences. Prof Hemant Sood conducted the lab visits of the department for all the college students. Dr. Shahsi Kumar gave a talk on very sensitive enviromental topic of carbon emission, which is a global challenge. Dr. Dinesh Gupta talked on AI and its applications in Bioinformatics and Biomedical and Helathcare sectors through multiple case studeies. Prof SK Khah gave a description of the PMS department activites however, Prof Sudhir mentioned the activities of BT and BI department. No need to mention that JUIT is one of the pioneer Universities in Himachal Pradesh and all the Northern parts of India in organizing and celebrating science at different levels through various activities.
