Banjar (Kullu):
An extraordinary confluence of deep faith and the rich cultural heritage of Devbhoomi Himachal Pradesh was witnessed on Saturday at Balagad in Banjar. The sacred Pran Pratishtha ceremony of the newly constructed chariots of Adi Shakti Maa Valle Durga and Maharshi Markandeya was held with great devotion, enthusiasm and divine fervor.
Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur graced the occasion as a special guest. He offered prayers and sought blessings from the deities for the welfare, prosperity and well-being of the region and the entire state. On his arrival, local MLA Surender Shaury warmly welcomed him, and the Dev Samaj expressed gratitude for his presence.
The divine meeting of the chariots of Maa Durga, Maharshi Markandeya (Balagad) and Rishi Markandeya (Pedcha) deeply moved thousands of devotees present at the event. Former MP Maheshwar Singh said that such grand events are essential for the preservation of Dev culture. He praised Jai Ram Thakur for attending the function despite his busy schedule, calling it a reflection of his unwavering commitment to local traditions and cultural values.
Former minister Govind Singh Thakur and a large number of devotees were also present, creating an atmosphere filled with devotion and spiritual energy. The entire area resonated with chants of “Atharah Karadu ki Jai-Jaikar,” making the surroundings completely divine.
Addressing the gathering, Jai Ram Thakur said that Dev traditions, Dev faith and Dev institutions are the unique identity of the hill people. He emphasized that for centuries, the people of the hills have remained connected to Dev culture, which forms the foundation of social unity and spiritual strength. He added that no matter where people live, staying connected to their roots and culture is their greatest strength, and forgetting one’s identity can prove harmful to society and culture alike.
Referring to current global challenges, the former Chief Minister expressed concern that Sanatan culture and religious beliefs are being systematically targeted in various parts of the country, especially in metropolitan cities. In such times, he said, the responsibility of every individual becomes even more important to preserve cultural identity and values. He also appreciated the fair committee for organizing such a grand event despite limited resources and challenges.
Mentioning Ayodhya, Jai Ram Thakur said that after a long struggle of five years and under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the construction of the grand Shri Ram Temple became possible. He described the Ram Temple as a proud symbol of India’s cultural identity and national consciousness, and urged people to show the same dedication towards their local shrines.
In conclusion, he prayed for divine protection for the people of Himachal Pradesh from natural calamities and sought continued blessings of Maa Valle Durga and Maharshi Markandeya on everyone. The organizing committee honored the former Chief Minister and other guests and expressed gratitude to all for the successful completion of the sacred Dev Karyakram.
On the occasion, representatives from the Dev Samaj, including Purushottam Sharma (representative of Devta Markandeya Rishi Mangalore), Kardar Markandeya Rishi Balagad Chuni Lal Sharma, Shravan Sharma, Dot Ram, Thakur Chand Mahant, Satyadev Sharma and several other Kardars of various deities were present.
