Shimla, May 1: Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary (Power), Government of India, on Friday reviewed key hydro power projects of SJVN Limited in Himachal Pradesh, assessing both operational performance and ongoing construction progress.
Accompanied by Additional Secretary (Hydro & EC&ET) Diwakar Nath Misra and Member (Hydro), CEA, Milind Ganesh Gokhale, Agarwal visited major projects including the 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station, 412 MW Rampur Hydro Power Station, 210 MW Luhri Stage-I and 382 MW Sunni Dam Hydro Electric Project.
The delegation was received by SJVN Chairman & Managing Director Bhupender Gupta, along with senior officials.
At the Nathpa Jhakri plant, officials briefed the Secretary on maintenance practices, technical performance and generation benchmarks. At the Rampur project, the visiting dignitaries planted saplings, highlighting a push for environmental sustainability.
Reviewing construction at the Luhri Stage-I project, Agarwal examined progress on dam works, powerhouse infrastructure and electro-mechanical installations. He stressed adherence to timelines and directed teams to ensure timely completion without compromising on quality and safety.
At the Sunni Dam project, Agarwal inaugurated a double-lane steel truss bridge at Khaira over the Satluj river, aimed at improving connectivity for remote panchayats in Mandi and Shimla districts. He also inspected key project components including the dam site, underground machine hall and tail race tunnel.
The Power Secretary commended SJVN’s efforts in achieving generation targets and progressing with under-construction projects. He reiterated the Government of India’s commitment to strengthening the hydro power sector and accelerating renewable energy development.
