Well-known Telugu actor Allu Arjun was arrested by the police on Friday. This action was taken against him in connection with the death of a woman during the premiere of his film ‘Pushpa 2: The Rise’.
Now he will be interrogated in the police station. Visuals shown on TV showed the actor being taken away in a police vehicle under tight security. A woman was killed and a boy was injured during the film’s premiere last week.
According to the information, Chikkadpally police has taken Allu Arjun to the police station for questioning. The case pertains to the stampede that broke out during the premiere of his film ‘Pushpa 2’ in a theater in Hyderabad on December 4. A 39-year-old woman was killed and her son was seriously injured in the stampede. The police had registered a case against Sandhya Theater management, the actor and his security team. Officials had then said that the police had no prior information that the film team would come for the premiere.
A case was registered against Allu Arjun for the stampede in the theatre. A woman died and her son had to be hospitalized due to the stampede. Police alleged that the actor reached the venue without prior informing the police, due to which chaos broke out. A case was also registered against the theater management for not making additional security and crowd management provisions. According to the police, the victim has been identified as 35-year-old Revathi. She was accompanied by her 13-year-old son Shritej, who also suffered suffocation injuries and is being treated at the hospital, where he has been kept under 48-hour observation. Based on the complaint by the deceased’s family, the police have registered a case against the actor, his security team and the theater management at Chikkadpally police station under sections 105 and 118(1) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS), he said.
Police said Allu Arjun reached the theater with his personal security, following which people tried to enter the cinema hall with him. His personal security team started pushing the public, which worsened the situation, as there was already a huge crowd in the theatre. Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand had said in a statement, ‘No information was given from the theater management or the team of actors that they would come to the theatre. Strict action will be taken as per law against all persons responsible for the chaotic situation inside the theater which led to the death of one person and injuries to others.’
On December 6, Allu Arjun finally spoke on the woman’s tragic death. After apologizing on X, the actor talked about it during a press meet in Hyderabad on Saturday. He apologized and said, ‘We are extremely sorry. We didn’t really know what happened. I have been doing this (going to theaters on the opening day) for 20 years. It is very unfortunate that this happened. Allu Arjun announced an assistance of Rs 25 lakh for the bereaved family. He also promised to bear the medical expenses of his 13-year-old son who was injured in the incident.
