Hamirpur, February 26:
Senior BJP spokesperson and former Sujanpur MLA Rajendra Rana on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government, alleging that criminals are being given “VIP treatment” in Devbhoomi and accusing Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of overstepping legal boundaries.
Referring to the alleged disturbance during the recent International AI Summit in New Delhi, Rana termed it “extremely unfortunate” that the accused, who allegedly tarnished the nation’s image, were able to find shelter in Himachal Pradesh. He claimed that the Delhi Police, which arrived to arrest them, faced obstruction from the state authorities — an incident he said raises serious questions about the functioning of the state government.
Taking direct aim at the Chief Minister, the BJP leader alleged that the government’s conduct indicated it was placing itself “above the law.” He further claimed that obstructing the Delhi Police, engaging in arguments, and registering FIRs against them suggested the administration was defending the accused rather than standing against criminal acts.
Rana stated that the Delhi Police securing transit remand from the court proves their action was lawful, while questioning whether the state government’s response was driven by political considerations.
In a sarcastic remark, Rana said that if anything has damaged the image of Devbhoomi Himachal, it is the Chief Minister’s approach. He maintained that the people of Himachal Pradesh are law-abiding and would not accept what he described as “politics of shielding criminals.”
The former MLA termed the Chief Minister’s functioning as “childish, immature, and arrogant,” adding that the state’s reputation had been put at stake. He concluded by saying that the public is closely watching developments and will ultimately judge whether the government stood with the law or with those accused of breaking it.
