Shimla, February 26: In a significant development, the District Court in Rohru has ordered the attachment of three Public Works Department (PWD) rest houses and one executive engineer’s office in connection with a decades-old land compensation case.
The order was passed by the Additional District Judge after the state government allegedly failed to pay compensation for land acquired in 1988–89 for a road project in Shalad village of Jubbal tehsil. The land, belonging to local residents Chet Ram and Rajesh Kumar, was reportedly taken for public use, but the compensation remained unpaid despite earlier court directions.
According to court records, the pending amount, along with interest, has now reached nearly ₹3 crore. The court directed the concerned authorities to clear the dues within the stipulated time, failing which attachment proceedings will be initiated against:
PWD Rest House, Jubbal
PWD Rest House, Hatkoti
PWD Rest House, Khadapathar
Executive Engineer’s Office, PWD Jubbal Division
The court has also sought a compliance report by March 17, 2026. Legal observers say the order highlights judicial accountability, making it clear that government properties are not beyond the reach of enforcement when court directives are not followed.
