The Municipal Corporation has become strict on those who do not pay property tax in the district Shimla. Instructions have been given to disconnect electricity and water connections of 7 building owners who have not deposited the house tax even after giving several notices. There are 30,000 building owners in the city, from whom the Municipal Corporation collects tax. Out of these, 1500 people have not deposited the tax yet. In these too, tax between 50 thousand to 1 lakh will be collected from 80 defaulters.
Those who do not pay 150 garbage bills are also on the radar
Around 150 non-payers of garbage bills are also on the radar of the Municipal Corporation, mostly hoteliers. About 60 thousand people in the city are associated with the door to door garbage scheme of the Municipal Corporation. In this too, there are about 5 thousand people who are not paying their bills on time.
Municipal Corporation has just sent notices to tax defaulters of more than 50 thousand. After this, 20 to 30 thousand defaulters will also be alerted. Please tell that MC Shimla has an annual income of Rs 21 crore from tax. Right now the corporation has to recover tax of about Rs 650 crore in the city.
The Municipal Corporation, which is struggling with poverty, has also been instructed by the government to increase the recovery of other bills including tax. Chief Minister Sukhu has asked the municipal administration to increase the income. For this, the corporation administration has expedited the work of increasing the recovery.
Municipal Commissioner Ashish Kohli says that these defaulters were given 15 days time by first issuing notices. To which no response came. Forcibly MC is cutting off their electricity-water connection. One week’s time has also been given to those who do not pay the garbage bill. After this action will be taken on them also.
