15-day Dumahar Panchayat-Level Cricket Tournament Concludes
Arki MLA Sanjay Awasthi said that sports are one of the most effective means to keep youth away from drugs, as they promote physical fitness, mental strength and discipline.
He was addressing the closing ceremony of the 15-day Dumahar Panchayat-level cricket tournament organised by Shatabdi Nayak Yuvak Mandal Dumahar in Gram Panchayat Dumahar under the Arki Assembly constituency in Himachal Pradesh.
A total of 32 teams from the area participated in the tournament, showcasing their sporting talent.
Awasthi said that a good athlete always stays away from addiction and prioritises physical development. Sports help inculcate discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, acceptance of victory and defeat, and self-confidence among youth, he added.
Sports Infrastructure to Be Strengthened
The MLA emphasised the need to improve sports infrastructure to attract more youth towards games. He said the state government is making concerted efforts to provide playgrounds, stadiums, sports academies and related facilities. He also announced that a sports academy will soon be established in the Arki Assembly constituency.
Congratulating the organising committee for successfully conducting the tournament, Awasthi honoured the winning team, Saurav Eleven Ghanugughat, with ₹51,000 and a trophy, while the runner-up team, Lutru Mahadev Eleven Chamyawal, received ₹31,000 and a trophy.
Grants and Announcements
The MLA announced ₹21,000 for Yuvak Mandal Ladi for purchasing equipment, ₹2 lakh for initial construction of the Ujjwal Gram Sangathan Dumahar building, and ₹50,000 for repairs of the Mahila Mandal Dumahar building. He further announced ₹1 lakh from the upcoming budget for playground expansion and approved the construction of a rain shelter at Kot Suni.
Additionally, he granted ₹21,000 to the organising committee from his discretionary fund.
Awasthi directed the Water Power Department to prepare estimates for an irrigation scheme for Dumahar and nearby villages and complete necessary formalities.
Earlier, under the ‘MLA Village Door’ initiative, he heard public grievances at the Public Works Rest House in Arki and issued directions to concerned departments for their prompt redressal.
Several senior Congress leaders, departmental officers, players and local residents were present on the occasion.
