Education Minister Rohit Thakur today attended as chief guest the winners “Felicitation Ceremony” and Prize Distribution Ceremony for the winners of the “68th National School Games” organized by the “Himachal School Sports Association” at Government Adarsh (Girls) Senior Secondary School, Portmore, Shimla.
The Education Minister congratulated all the students who brought glory to Himachal.
He said that a total of 718 school players participated in the 68th National School Games. Himachal Pradesh had 199 players in the U19 boys category, 167 players in the U19 girls category, 173 players in the U17 boys category and 179 players in the U17 girls category. This year, our talented players have won a total of 33 medals including 3 gold, 6 silver and 24 bronze medals, in which winning 10 medals each in boxing and Kurash is a very commendable effort. Players of all the games and their trainers have left no stone unturned in bringing glory to Himachal in the National Games, for which everyone deserves congratulations.
Efforts are being made to promote sports: Education Minister
In silver medals, 03 silver medals were won in U19 boys category (2 in boxing, 1 in kurash), 02 in U19 girls category (one in wrestling and one in handball team event) and 01 silver medal was won in U17 boys category in boxing.
The bronze medals include 10 bronze medals (02 in Boxing, 03 in Kurash, 04 in Wrestling) in the U19 Boys category and 04 (02 in Boxing, 01 in Kurash and 1 in Yoga) in the U19 Girls category, 05 bronze medals (02 in Boxing, 02 in Kurash, 01 in Wrestling) in the U17 Boys category and 06 bronze medals (01 in Boxing, 01 in Kurash, 01 in Taekwondo, 02 in Judo and 01 in Hockey Team event) in the U-17 Girls category, which includes one medal in the Hockey Team event.
They were honored
The Education Minister honoured all the gold, silver and bronze medal winners with caps, certificates, mementos and cash prizes. The cash prize was Rs 5000 for gold medal winners, Rs 3000 for silver medal winners and Rs 2000 for bronze medal winners. Along with this, the coaches and teachers of the students were also honoured with shawls and caps.
During the program, the Education Minister honored the girl students who recently achieved good results in the 12th class of the Education Board. The Education Minister said that this school is our best institution in the field of education where the maximum number of girl students in the state are receiving education and bringing glory to the state in every field. The Education Minister announced to give Rs. 2,000 each from his discretionary fund to the girl students of Portmore School who gave cultural presentation.
Director School Education Ashish Kumar Kohli welcomed the Education Minister on his arrival at the program. He said that promoting sports along with studies is our priority in the education department.
General Secretary Himachal School Sports Association Santosh Chauhan shared detailed information about the sports activities.
