Education Minister felicitated medal winners
Education Minister Rohit Thakur today attended as chief guest the winners “Felicitation Ceremony” and Prize Distribution Ceremony for the winners of the “68th National School Games” organized by the “Himachal School Sports Association” at Government Adarsh (Girls) Senior Secondary School, Portmore, Shimla.
In his address, the Education Minister said that sports will be promoted along with education in every corner of the state so that the all-round development of the students can be ensured. Quality education is the priority of our government, for which every possible effort is being made. He said that sports is an integral part of our life. Efforts are being made by the state government to promote sports along with studies.
The Education Minister congratulated all the students who brought glory to Himachal.
He said that a total of 718 school players participated in the 68th National School Games. Himachal Pradesh had 199 players in the U19 boys category, 167 players in the U19 girls category, 173 players in the U17 boys category and 179 players in the U17 girls category. This year, our talented players have won a total of 33 medals including 3 gold, 6 silver and 24 bronze medals, in which winning 10 medals each in boxing and Kurash is a very commendable effort. Players of all the games and their trainers have left no stone unturned in bringing glory to Himachal in the National Games, for which everyone deserves congratulations.
The Education Minister congratulated all the students who brought glory to Himachal.

This year, our talented players have won a total of 33 medals including 3 gold, 6 silver and 24 bronze medals, in which winning 10 medals each in boxing and Kurash is a very commendable effort. Players of all the games and their trainers have left no stone unturned in bringing glory to Himachal in the National Games, for which everyone deserves congratulations.
Rohit Thakur said that in the National School Games, the state has won 20 medals in the year 2022, 18 medals in 2023 and this time the maximum of 33 medals, which is a matter of joy for all of us.
Efforts are being made to promote sports: Education Minister
The Education Minister said that every possible effort is being made to promote sports in the state. In this regard, the Himachal Pradesh government has provided an amount of Rs 1 crore to the School Sports Association as sports grant. The Himachal Pradesh government started new sports faculties in sports hostels this year, which includes 20 seats for volleyball for boys in sports hostel Sandhol, 20 seats for Kabaddi for girls in sports hostel Jubbal and 15 seats in badminton. Today there are 9 sports hostels in Himachal Pradesh. Last year, the Himachal Pradesh government increased the diet money of U14 age group from Rs 120 to Rs 250 in state level competitions and this year the diet money of U19 age group from Rs 150 to Rs 250 and in national competitions the diet money has been increased to Rs 400. He said that other demands have been received here with the aim of promoting sports, all demands will be considered sympathetically and fulfilled.
Won 33 medals in 68th National School Games
The state won 33 medals in the 68th National School Games. In which 03 gold medals, 06 silver medals and 24 bronze medals were won. Himachali players won one gold medal (Kurash) in the U19 boys category and two gold medals (one Kurash and one wrestling) in the U19 girls category.
In silver medals, 03 silver medals were won in U19 boys category (2 in boxing, 1 in kurash), 02 in U19 girls category (one in wrestling and one in handball team event) and 01 silver medal was won in U17 boys category in boxing.
The bronze medals include 10 bronze medals (02 in Boxing, 03 in Kurash, 04 in Wrestling) in the U19 Boys category and 04 (02 in Boxing, 01 in Kurash and 1 in Yoga) in the U19 Girls category, 05 bronze medals (02 in Boxing, 02 in Kurash, 01 in Wrestling) in the U17 Boys category and 06 bronze medals (01 in Boxing, 01 in Kurash, 01 in Taekwondo, 02 in Judo and 01 in Hockey Team event) in the U-17 Girls category, which includes one medal in the Hockey Team event.
Steps are being taken towards quality education: Rohit Thakur
The Education Minister said that steps are being taken to ensure that students in every corner of the state receive quality education. Changes are being made in the field of education by taking strict steps so that there can be improvement in the field of education. Due to these changes, the state has secured the first position in the report of ASER. He said that in the last report of National Assessment Survey, the state was at the 21st position. Due to the better changes in the field of education in the state, there is a possibility of good results in this report.
This year we have seen better results in the 12th class results of the education board as compared to last year. Along with this, the students of the state have also given better results in class 10th. He said that strict decisions are being taken in the field of education so that the quality of education can be improved. Better efforts will be made in the future to promote education.

The Education Minister honoured all the gold, silver and bronze medal winners with caps, certificates, mementos and cash prizes. The cash prize was Rs 5000 for gold medal winners, Rs 3000 for silver medal winners and Rs 2000 for bronze medal winners. Along with this, the coaches and teachers of the students were also honoured with shawls and caps.

The Education Minister said that this school is our best institution in the field of education where the maximum number of girl students in the state are receiving education and bringing glory to the state in every field. The Education Minister announced to give Rs. 2,000 each from his discretionary fund to the girl students of Portmore School who gave cultural presentation.
