A fresh controversy has surfaced around the Himachal Kala, Bhasha and Sanskriti Academy after concerns were raised regarding the outdated and allegedly inaccurate information on its official website. The issue, highlighted with screenshots, has sparked questions about whether members of the Academy’s General Council have even reviewed the platform meant to showcase the state’s rich cultural and literary heritage.
Prominent litterateur SR Harnot brought the matter into the public domain, pointing out discrepancies and outdated content on the Academy’s website.
The screenshots shared indicate that key information related to office bearers and institutional activities has not been updated, raising concerns about administrative oversight under the present dispensation.
Critics have indirectly targeted the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Himachal Pradesh government, questioning the functioning of departments and cultural bodies under its watch. They argue that such lapses reflect a lack of seriousness towards preserving and promoting Himachal’s linguistic and cultural identity.
The Academy, established in 1972, plays a crucial role in the promotion of literature, folk art, and regional languages. Observers say that an outdated website not only undermines its credibility but also affects researchers, artists, and the general public seeking authentic information.
So far, no official response has been issued by the Academy or the state government regarding the allegations. However, the issue has triggered a wider debate on accountability and transparency in cultural institutions across Himachal Pradesh.
