    Tata Sumo Swept Into Gorge After Massive Landslide on Udaipur–Pangi Road, Driver Escapes Miraculously

    At least 13 people, including a six-month-old infant, were killed after a massive landslide sent huge boulders and debris crashing onto a moving Tata Sumo taxi near Kadu Nallah on the Udaipur–Killar road in Himachal Pradesh on Friday. Two occupants are reported to have survived the tragic accident.

    According to Bharmour-Pangi MLA Janak Raj, the vehicle was carrying 15 passengers and was travelling from Udaipur towards Pangi when the hillside suddenly collapsed. The taxi was struck directly by heavy rocks and debris, leaving it completely mangled.

    The impact of the landslide was so severe that the Tata Sumo was crushed beyond recognition. A fire also broke out in the rear portion of the vehicle after the accident. Local residents and Army personnel rushed to the spot, extinguished the flames, and joined rescue efforts despite the difficult terrain. Videos from the scene show the vehicle extensively damaged and engulfed in flames.

    The accident site is located around 60–70 km from Keylong, the headquarters of Lahaul-Spiti district. Rescue operations are continuing amid challenging conditions, with the risk of further landslides and falling debris.

    MLA Janak Raj confirmed that 13 people lost their lives, including a six-month-old child, while two passengers survived. He said he had spoken to the Deputy Commissioners of Chamba and Lahaul-Spiti, urging them to expedite rescue and relief operations.

    Preliminary reports indicate that the passengers had been stranded overnight at Tindi after the Udaipur–Killar road was closed due to adverse weather. They resumed their journey towards Pangi after the road reopened on Friday, only to meet with the fatal accident near Kadu Nallah.

    Initial information suggests that most of the deceased were residents of the Pangi Valley. However, the administration has not yet officially released the identities of the victims.

    Lahaul-Spiti DSP Rashmi Sharma said police teams were immediately dispatched after receiving information about the incident. Police, civil administration, and rescue teams remain at the site, and further official details are awaited.

    Chamba, June 21: A district-level yoga camp was organised at the historic Chaugan ground in Chamba on the occasion of International Yoga Day. The event was hosted by the AYUSH Department and witnessed participation from students, officials and members of various organisations.

    Additional Deputy Commissioner Amit Mehra attended the programme as the chief guest and inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp.

    This year’s International Yoga Day was celebrated under the theme ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing,’ highlighting the importance of adopting yoga to remain healthy, active and disease-free at every stage of life.

    Extending his greetings on International Yoga Day, Amit Mehra said that yoga should be made an integral part of daily life to ensure a healthy and fit lifestyle. He noted that regular yoga practice strengthens both the body and mind and helps prevent several lifestyle-related diseases, including heart ailments and diabetes.

    “Yoga is a simple yet effective way to maintain overall well-being. Everyone should dedicate some time every day to yoga,” he said.

    District AYUSH Officer Dr Anita Sharma honoured the chief guest with a memento during the programme.

    Under the guidance of Dr Yogesh Jaryal, In-charge of the District Ayurvedic Hospital, participants performed various yoga asanas and pranayama exercises. The session included Padmasana, Vajrasana, Bhujangasana, Tadasana and Shavasana, along with breathing techniques such as Bhastrika, Kapalabhati, Anulom-Vilom, Bhramari, Shitali and Ujjayi.

    Among those present were District Planning Officer Dr Devendra, District Welfare Officer Manjul Thakur and Yoga Day Nodal Officer Sushil Kumar. Students from various schools, trainees from nursing and polytechnic institutes, and members of Seva Bharti Chamba and the Sarvodaya team also participated in the programme.

    Seven people, including three brothers, were killed after a Bolero vehicle carrying passengers returning from a family ceremony plunged into a deep gorge near Chhatrund on the Chamba-Masroond road in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district late Wednesday night.

    According to officials, the vehicle lost control near Chhatrund in the Pukhri area and fell into a deep ravine. Rescue teams, police personnel and local residents rushed to the spot and launched an overnight rescue operation. All seven occupants were found dead.

     

    Reports said the victims were returning to their village after attending a mundan (tonsure) ceremony when the accident occurred. The tragedy has cast a pall of gloom over the region, particularly as three of the deceased were real brothers from the same family.

     

    Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest the vehicle may have skidded off the narrow mountain road before plunging into the gorge.

    Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed grief over the loss of lives and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families. Authorities have assured all possible assistance to the affected families.

    भरमौर उपमंडल की बड़ग्राम पंचायत के खनबगा गांव में बिजली विभाग की कथित लापरवाही ग्रामीणों की जान पर भारी पड़ रही है। गांव निवासी अशोक कुमार के घर और खेतों के ऊपर से गुजर रही बिजली की तारें इतनी नीचे लटक रही हैं कि उनकी ऊंचाई कई जगह एक सामान्य व्यक्ति की लंबाई से भी कम बताई जा रही है। ग्रामीणों का कहना है कि विभाग की अनदेखी के कारण यहां कभी भी बड़ा हादसा हो सकता है।

    ग्रामीणों के अनुसार, इस गंभीर समस्या को लेकर कई बार बिजली विभाग के अधिकारियों और संबंधित जेई को शिकायतें दी गईं, लेकिन हर बार केवल आश्वासन ही मिला। लोगों का आरोप है कि क्षेत्र के विधायक जनक राज द्वारा मामला उठाए जाने के बावजूद विभाग ने स्थिति को अभी तक गंभीरता से नहीं लिया  है । नतीजतन आज भी लोग खतरे के साए में रहने को मजबूर हैं।

    अशोक कुमार ग्रामीण का कहना है कि उनके घर और खेतों के आसपास हर समय दुर्घटना का खतरा बना रहता है। बच्चों, बुजुर्गों और खेतों में काम करने वाले लोगों की सुरक्षा को लेकर परिवार लगातार चिंतित है। उनका आरोप है कि बिजली विभाग किसी बड़ी दुर्घटना का इंतजार कर रहा है।

    ग्रामीणों ने सवाल उठाया है कि जब बार-बार शिकायतों के बावजूद विभाग कार्रवाई नहीं कर पाया तो आम लोगों की सुरक्षा की जिम्मेदारी आखिर कौन लेगा। लोगों का कहना है कि यदि भविष्य में कोई जान-माल का नुकसान होता है तो इसकी पूरी जिम्मेदारी बिजली विभाग की होगी।

    हालांकि, इस मामले पर प्रतिक्रिया देते हुए बिजली विभाग के जेई अभिनय कुमार ने बताया कि शिकायत दर्ज कर ली गई है और एक सप्ताह के भीतर नया पोल लगाकर तारों को सुरक्षित ऊंचाई पर शिफ्ट करने की प्रक्रिया शुरू कर दी जाएगी। लेकिन ग्रामीणों का कहना है कि वे लंबे समय से ऐसे ही आश्वासन सुनते आ रहे हैं और अब उन्हें केवल कार्रवाई का इंतजार है।

    राज्यपाल श्री राजेंद्र विश्वनाथ आर्लेकर ने कहा कि हिमाचल प्रदेश का गौरवशाली इतिहास और समृद्ध लोक परम्पराएं प्रदेश की उन्नति और तरक्की में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभा रही हैं। राज्यपाल आज चम्बा जिले के एतिहासिक मिंजर मेला के शुभारंभ अवसर पर बतौर मुख्य अतिथि बोल रहे थे। राज्यपाल के रूप में श्री आर्लेकर का यह चम्बा जिले का पहला दौरा है और पिछले कई वर्षों के बाद राज्यपाल मिंजर मिला के शुभारम्भ अवसर पर चम्बा पहुंचे हैं।

     

    राज्यपाल ने कहा कि ऐतिहासिक मिंजर मेला की अपनी अलग पहचान है। ज़िला की समृद्ध लोक कला एवं संस्कृति के संरक्षण व संवर्धन और सामाजिक सौहार्द को बनाए रखने पर प्रसन्नता व्यक्त करते हुए उन्होंने मेले के सफल आयोजन में आधुनिकता के उचित समावेश पर बल दिया। उन्होंने कहा कि चंबा की समृद्ध लोक संस्कृति है। इस संस्कृति को पुरातन समय से लोगों द्वारा सहेजा जा रहा है। उन्होंने लोगों का आह्वान किया कि स्थानीय पारंपारिक लोक संस्कृति व सामाजिक सौहार्द को वे इसी तरह संरक्षित रखा जाना चाहिए ।

     

    श्री आर्लेकर ने ज़िला की प्रसिद्ध कलाकृति चंबा रुमाल और चंबा चप्पल का जिक्र भी किया। उन्होंने कहा कि चंबा चप्पल और चंबा रुमाल को भौगोलिक संकेत (जीआई टैग) मिलने से चंबा को प्रसिद्धि मिल रही है। उन्होंने कहा कि ऐतिहासिक मिंजर मेला को अंतरराष्ट्रीय मेला का दर्जा दिए जाने को लेकर प्रदेश सरकार आवश्यक कार्रवाई कर रही है।

     

    इससे पूर्व, राज्यपाल ने चंबा के पारंपरिक कूंजड़ी मल्हार गायन के बीच ध्वजारोहण कर मिंजर मेला का विधिवत शुभारंभ किया। उन्होंने बाद में विभिन्न विभागों और सामाजिक संस्थाओं द्वारा लगाई गई प्रदर्शनियों का शुभारंभ और अवलोकन भी किया।

     

    चंबा नगर परिषद अध्यक्ष नीलम नैय्यर ने राज्यपाल को मिंजर भेंट की।

     

    मिंजर मेला आयोजन समिति की ओर से उपायुक्त एवं अध्यक्ष श्री डीसी राणा ने राज्यपाल को सम्मानित किया। उन्होंने कहा कि समिति द्वारा रात्रि सांस्कृतिक संध्या में हर वर्ग की रुचि का ध्यान रखा गया है। उन्होंने कहा कि चंबा जिला और प्रदेश के अन्य जिलों के कलाकारों को भी 8 दिनों तक चलने वाले इस मेले में अपनी प्रस्तुतियां देने का मौका मिलेगा।

     

    इस मौके पर मिंजर मेला खेलकूद प्रतियोगिताओं का भी शुभारम्भ हुआ। राज्यपाल ने मिंजर मेला खेलकूद प्रतियोगिताओं के विधिवत शुरू होने की घोषणा भी की। पुलिस अधीक्षक अभिषेक यादव ने उन्हें मिंजर मेला खेलकूद समिति की ओर से सम्मानित किया।

     

    समारोह में विधानसभा उपाध्यक्ष डॉ हंसराज, विधायक पवन नैय्यर, जिला भाजपा अध्यक्ष जसवीर नागपाल, अतिरिक्त जिला दंडाधिकारी अमित मेहरा, नगर परिषद अध्यक्ष नीलम नैय्यर समेत नगर परिषद के पार्षद, विभिन्न विभागों के अधिकारी और गणमान्य लोग इस अवसर पर उपस्थित थे।
