Celebrating the 75th year of the country’s independence, the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”, the Chitrakoot School of Liberal Arts at Shoolini University organised a talk session with an eminent academician Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, former Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Odisha, Professor and Head of the Department of English at the University of Hyderabad.
Prof Mohanty delivered his lecture on “Partition 75 – Looking Forward, Looking Back: Memories, Identities and Lessons”. While political pundits must find answers to the crises in South Asia, and historians grapple with the many causes of the Indian Partition, it is in the realm of literature, culture, research and documentation that lasting answers could be found to the enduring problems of the Indian Partition, he said.
Chancellor, Prof PK Khosla, presided over the talk and shared his own experiences as a child during the partition days.
The Vice-Chancellor of Shoolini University Prof Atul Khosla, welcomed the speaker and felicitated him.
Aimed at the generation next, the hour-long talk suggested the need to go beyond revenge history. It explained how literature and culture play a pivotal role in Holocaust Studies. The talk, which was held on campus and also livestreamed across social media, brought in travel, history, culture and literature to indicate points of departure for the Indian Nation.
