Thousands of CPI(M) Workers from Himachal Pradesh Join INDIA Bloc Rally in Delhi

Party demands removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, scrapping of SIR process and restoration of deleted voter names

New Delhi, November 1: Thousands of workers of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) from Himachal Pradesh participated in the INDIA Bloc rally in Delhi on Sunday, joining a large gathering of people from across the country to raise concerns over the revision of electoral rolls and alleged deletion of voters’ names.

The rally called for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and legal action against him, alleging that crores of people had been deprived of their constitutional right to vote through the deletion of their names from electoral rolls.

The participants also demanded that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process be scrapped and the names of all eligible voters removed from electoral rolls be restored. They further called for amendments to the law governing the appointment of Election Commissioners and comprehensive electoral reforms.

CPI(M) Himachal Pradesh State Secretary Sanjay Chauhan said the large turnout at the rally reflected public concern over what the party described as the weakening of democratic institutions and constitutional safeguards.

He alleged that the BJP-led government at the Centre was undermining democratic values and said the movement would continue until the party’s demands were met.

Chauhan reiterated that the CPI(M) would continue its agitation for the removal of the Chief Election Commissioner, cancellation of the SIR exercise and restoration of deleted voter names.
