The state government has accorded approval for setting up of upcoming Unity Mall at Village Dhagwar near Dharamshala in District Kangra. The total land measuring 02-67-99 hectares has been transferred to the Industries department from the Revenue department.
A Spokesperson of the state government informed here today that the Government of India has launched the scheme of special assistance to states for capital investment and has also issued the revised guidelines for construction of Unity Mall.
As per the mandate of the scheme, the Unity Mall will function as a one-stop marketplace and commercial centre for ODOP, GI Tagged, and handicraft products of the state while also showcasing products from other states of India catering to domestic and foreign tourists.
He said that the department of Industries in consultation with experts, consultants and HPSIDC has prepared a detailed project report for the Unity Mall project in Himachal Pradesh and the detailed project report has been submitted to the government of India in August 2023.
Subsequently, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), government of India has accorded approval for capital expenditure amounting to Rs. 132 crore for construction of Unity Mall in the state. The first installment of Rs 66 crore has been released by the Union Ministry of Finance, department of Expenditure to the Planning department of the state.
The Industries department will shortly launch the tender for the construction, operation and maintenance of Unity Mall in PPP mode as per guidelines of DPIIT in a revenue sharing model.
As per the scheme guidelines, showcasing of products from State and India are to be provisioned in the upcoming Unity Mall. Other indicative features would include parking, hotel, food courts, pvr and other commercial activities.
Since the project is to be implemented in PPP mode, all requisite codal formalities are being prepared in consultation with experts. This facility apart from showcasing the products and promoting tourism in the State will also generate revenue to the exchequer.
