The body of Vimal Negi, Chief Engineer of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation, who was missing since March 10, was found dead at Bhakra Dam on March 18. But with this, Vimal Negi’s death has raised many questions on the functioning of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation.
The wife of the deceased officer Vimal Negi has made many sensational allegations and expressed apprehension that her husband’s death is related to the solar power plant built at a cost of Rs 220 crore at Pekhubela in Una district. However, this is the first solar power plant in the state which was built in record time and dedicated to the public.
The foundation stone of this 32 MW capacity solar power project was laid by Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu on 3 December 2023, while this project was built and dedicated to the public within a record 8 months. On Wednesday, by keeping the body of Vimal Negi in front of the corporation’s office, the family not only protested strongly but also accused the corporation of various types of irregularities.
In which this 32 MW capacity solar power project of Una district, built at a cost of Rs 220 crore, has been specifically pointed out. The victim’s family even demanded a special investigation of this project. After this demand of Vimal Negi’s family, Himachal Pradesh’s largest solar power project also came under question. Due to which everyone is forced to think what is the connection of Vimal Negi’s death with the Rs 220 crore solar power project.
The family of the deceased officer demanded the suspension of Power Corporation’s Managing Director and IAS officer Harikesh Meena along with Director Deshraj. The family alleges that Vimal Negi died because of these two officers. The family of the deceased officer burst out in anger in front of Kinnaur MLA and cabinet minister in the state government Jagat Negi.
However, Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Managing Director and IAS officer Harikesh Meena has been continuously linked to controversies. Employees of the corporation have already come out on the streets from Shimla to Una against this officer, but the controversy that arose after the death of Vimal Negi seems to be taking a toll on Harikesh Meena.
Vimal Negi’s family has demanded to register a murder case against both the officers in this case and to investigate many big projects of the Power Corporation. Note that Vimal Negi’s family is sitting outside the HPPCL office with his dead body and they say that they will not get up until the guilty officers are suspended.
