Continuing its firm “Zero Tolerance” policy against narcotics, the Shimla Police has detained three habitual drug traffickers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act, 1988. Acting on detention orders issued by the state government, the accused have been sent to judicial custody for a period of three months.
The preventive action aims to dismantle drug supply chains, weaken organized criminal networks, and safeguard youth from the growing menace of narcotics.
1. Inder Dev alias Danu (41)
A resident of Mandhorpat in Shimla district, Inder Dev alias Danu was detained on February 22, 2026. He has multiple cases registered under the NDPS Act, 1985.
Major cases include:
FIR No. 251/2022 (Police Station West Shimla) – 40.26 grams heroin (chitta) and 16.35 grams opium recovered.
FIR No. 141/2023 (West Shimla) – 18.55 grams heroin recovered.
FIR No. 476/2024 (Zirakpur, Punjab) – 60 grams heroin recovered.
FIR No. 199/2025 (Dharampur, Solan) – 2.47 grams heroin recovered.
Apart from NDPS cases, a total of 52 criminal cases are registered against him across Shimla and other districts, including excise violations, theft, burglary, road accidents, and assault.
2. Deepak Thakur (35)
A resident of Navbahar, Chhota Shimla, Deepak Thakur has also been detained under PIT NDPS provisions for three months.
Registered cases include:
FIR No. 149/2021 (West Shimla) – 64.34 grams heroin recovered.
FIR No. 05/2025 (Sanjauli) – 5.480 grams heroin recovered.
3. Sanjeev Kumar alias Ghoda (34)
A resident of Theog subdivision, Sanjeev Kumar alias Ghoda was detained on February 22, 2026. He has been repeatedly involved in drug trafficking cases.
Cases registered:
FIR No. 213/2020 (Dhalli) – 1.03 grams heroin recovered.
FIR No. 250/2020 (Dhalli) – 1.64 grams heroin recovered.
FIR No. 39/2021 (Dhalli) – 12.55 grams heroin recovered.
FIR No. 146/2025 (Dhalli) – 2.290 grams heroin recovered.
21 Drug Traffickers Detained in 28 Days
Shimla Police informed that over the past 28 days, 21 habitual and organized drug traffickers have been detained under preventive detention orders and sent to jail for three months.
Objective of Preventive Detention
The primary objective of preventive detention under the PIT NDPS Act is to break the chain of illegal narcotics trade, disrupt organized trafficking networks, and prevent repeat offenders from re-engaging in unlawful activities. The initiative is focused on protecting society, especially the youth, from the harmful impact of drugs.

Shimla Police has urged citizens to actively support the anti-drug campaign and report any suspicious activity immediately at 88947-28001 or inform the nearest police station or helpline.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to continue strict and lawful action against drug traffickers to ensure public safety and maintain law and order in the district.
