Shimla: Eleven schools from Himachal Pradesh have secured places in the national merit list under the Swachh & Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) 2025-26, a flagship initiative of the Union Ministry of Education’s Department of School Education and Literacy. The achievement highlights the state’s commitment to promoting clean, green and sustainable school campuses.
Six schools were recognised in the Rural Category-I, with GPS Nand (Bilaspur) securing the third rank nationally. GHS Zila-Aj (Kullu) ranked sixth, GMS Dhamoon (Sirmaur) 14th, GPS Gagret (Una) 22nd, GPS Bandol (Kangra) 32nd and Snow View Valley International School (Kullu) 55th.
In Rural Category-II, PM SHRI Pt. Deendayal GMSSS Narg (Sirmaur) secured the third rank, followed by Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Bhoranj (Hamirpur) at 10th. GSSS Budhan (Una) and The Lawrence School, Sanawar (Solan) jointly secured the 31st position. In Urban Category-II, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Baijnath (Kangra) ranked 14th nationally.
The schools were evaluated on parameters including sanitation, waste management, water conservation, energy efficiency and development of green campuses. Each selected school will receive a Certificate of Merit along with an additional grant of ₹1 lakh to strengthen green initiatives. Principals and headmasters of the selected schools will also participate in a special academic exposure visit to learn best practices from across the country.
Samagra Shiksha Director Rajesh Sharma said the recognition reflects Himachal Pradesh’s sustained focus on developing clean, green and sustainable schools through the collective efforts of the government, educators, students and local communities. He congratulated the selected schools, calling the achievement a matter of pride for the state.
