Sissu (Lahaul-Spiti), September 21: Two friends were killed and three others seriously injured after their car plunged into a deep gorge near the selfie point close to the Atal Tunnel in Sissu on Sunday night.
The five friends from Mandi district were travelling in a car bearing registration number HP31C-1662 towards Gondhla when the vehicle reportedly went out of control and skidded off the road, falling into the gorge.
The deceased have been identified as Suresh of Bhadiyal and Bablu of Ropa. Both were married and are survived by their families.
Their three companions — Mohan Singh, Nikhil and Pawan Kumar — sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kullu.
According to preliminary information, the five friends had left home for an outing. The journey, however, turned tragic when the vehicle met with the accident near Sissu.
Soon after the accident was reported, local residents and police personnel launched rescue operations. The injured were evacuated and shifted for medical treatment.
Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the crash. Further details are awaited.
