A two new cases of scrub typhus have been confirmed at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, taking the total number of positive cases detected at the hospital this season to three.
According to hospital officials, nine samples were tested for scrub typhus on Tuesday. Of these, two patients tested positive while seven samples returned negative. A total of 38 samples have been examined so far, with three confirmed positive cases.
Dr. Rahul Rao urged people to remain vigilant, stressing that prevention is the most effective defence against scrub typhus. He advised anyone experiencing fever, headache or body aches, especially after visiting fields, bushes or forested areas, to seek medical attention and get tested at the nearest health facility without delay.
He said that timely diagnosis and prompt treatment can successfully cure the infection. Health experts have also advised residents to take extra precautions during the monsoon season by wearing full-sleeved clothing while visiting grassy or bushy areas and maintaining proper personal hygiene.
