Under the aegis leadership of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor (officiating), Professor Chanchal Kumar Singh, the Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla, hosted the 2nd International Samanvay Mediation Competition. Building on the success of the inaugural edition, this year’s competition aligned with the recently enacted Mediation Act 2023. The University has been at the forefront of ADR initiatives, establishing the Center for ADR and organising various competitions and training programs to nurture mediation talent.
A diverse pool of international and national teams participated in the competition. International teams hailed from Singapore and Colombo, while national teams represented universities across India. A total of 33 teams competed, with two of them being International teams and thirty one being National teams.
The competition was graced by the presence of esteemed assessors from renowned institutions and organisations, all of whom work at the forefront of the dispute resolution field in the country. These included Mr. El Akra Djamel, Ms. Sanjana Srivastava, Dr. Hepzibah Beulah and Mr. Litson Stephen from MGM Legal, CAM, the ICC, and SAMA. Their expertise and guidance were invaluable in evaluating the participants’ mediation skills.
The inaugural ceremony was a momentous occasion, marked by insightful speeches from distinguished guests. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Professor Chanchal Kumar Singh, emphasised the University’s commitment to the ever growing field of ADR and the importance of fostering a culture of peaceful dispute resolution. He commended the participants for their dedication and skills.
