Shimla, Senior BJP State Spokesperson Trilok Jamwal said that the current Congress government seems to be constantly running away from the Panchayat Raj elections. He said that the government is procrastinating in the Panchayat Raj elections because they know that their own, i.e., Congress leaders, will not be able to win this time in Himachal Pradesh.
He said that Himachal has 3,577 Panchayats. Elections are to be held in these areas in December this year. The term of the current representatives ends on January 23, 2026. The State Election Commission is constitutionally obligated to conduct elections before January 23. The Election Commission wants to conduct the elections in December because heavy snowfall occurs in January in many parts of Shimla, Mandi, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Kangra, Kullu, and Sirmaur districts. Holding elections during this snowfall could prove difficult. Today, the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh is challenging the Election Commission, something that has never happened before in the state.
The claims of the CM and the minister are also false till now.
Trilok Jamwal said that Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh have repeatedly stated that elections will be held on time. However, the reservation roster has not been released yet. This casts doubt on whether the elections will be held on time. The High Court stated that the reservation roster should be released three months before the election process begins, so that if anyone objects to the reservation roster and wishes to challenge it in court, they will be able to do so within 90 days. The court will also have time to resolve appeals against the reservation roster. The Congress government in Himachal Pradesh has created such circumstances that whatever it wants will happen, and whatever the public wants will not happen at all.
