The prestigious Women of Substance Award 2025, dedicated to the legacy of Vandana Sharma, was conferred upon Dr. Aditi Sharma, Associate Professor at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Shoolini University.
The award, which celebrates women of resilience and influence, was judged by Taruna Mehta and Shashi Julka. Dr. Sharma received a cash prize of ₹7,500 for her remarkable achievements in academia, including qualifying for GPAT and completing a fully funded doctorate under the DST-JRF fellowship. Now an accomplished academician, she continues to inspire others with her dedication and perseverance.
A special honour was given to Mrs. Poonam Nanda, Director of Sustainability and Community Engagement at Shoolini University, who was awarded the title of “Soul of Woman of Substance” for her immense contributions toward social impact and community development.
The Women of Substance Award is held annually in memory of Vandana Sharma, a mother, dreamer, and fighter who never gave up. The event serves as a platform to recognize and honor women who have demonstrated strength, perseverance, and the power to inspire.
Mrs Poonam Nanda had started this contest in the memory of our own student Vandana Sharma who lost her life battling a serious liver disorder. This year Mrs Nanda herself was given a special award of Soul of Substance in recognition of her work and her contribution despite facing serious health challenges.
Pooja Verma, from the Department of Student Welfare (DSW), was declared the runner-up and was honoured with a cash prize of ₹5,000 and a special gift. Sharing her inspiring journey, Pooja reflected on overcoming personal struggles with unwavering determination. Having lost her father at the age of one, she was raised by a single mother who instilled in her the values of courage and perseverance. Pooja earned multiple academic qualifications, including MA, B.Ed, a diploma in classical dance, and a TET certification. Despite facing the loss of her husband after years of battling his critical illness, she emerged stronger, becoming both a mother and father to her child. Her story stands as a testament to the resilience that defines a true Woman of Substance.
Mrs. Nanda said, “I have shared my on going battle with cancer with all my students. I use my personal story to motivate students and help them cope with challenges. I am a live example for them to understand that life is full of ups and downs. You need to tide over the downs with all your resilience and positivity to emerge as a strong individual.”
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Aditi Sharma said, “Life is a struggle, but we should never give up. This award is not just for me, but for every woman who fights against the odds to achieve her dreams.”
Pooja Verma added, “My smile wasn’t an escape; it was my armor. Life has never been easy, but I have turned every challenge into my strength. Every woman who stands tall despite adversity is a true Woman of Substance.”
