Mandi: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, in a press statement issued from Mandi, attacked the state’s Congress government, saying that Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has become a puppet in the hands of officials and is completely ‘compromised’. He strongly condemned the decision to give permanent appointment to the current acting Chief Secretary. Jai Ram Thakur said that making the same officer, whose appointment has been challenged in the Honorable High Court through a public interest litigation and where the court has issued a notice to the government, as permanent CS at such a sensitive time raises serious questions on the government’s intentions.
He alleged that three FIRs have been filed against this officer under the Prevention of Corruption Act and his name has also appeared in the Chester Hill Benami Property Case. Despite this, instead of taking action, the Chief Minister is protecting him, which clearly shows that these officers harbor some deep secrets of Congress leaders and allies. Jairam Thakur claimed that the Chief Minister is so helpless that he is rewarding corrupt officers and seeking extensions or reappointments even after retirement. He said that the Chief Minister is now surrounded by the same officers who have been accused of serious corruption.

On the other hand, the Leader of the Opposition lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership on water security and national interests. He said, “Modi ji’s guarantee means that every work will be completed.” PM Modi has given a befitting reply to those who questioned the suspension of the India-Pakistan Indus Water Treaty after Operation Sindoor. The central government has approved two major tunnel projects worth ₹2,620 crore to divert water from rivers flowing to Pakistan. Under this, the 8.7-kilometer-long Chenab-Beas Link Tunnel will be constructed in Lahaul-Spiti, Himachal Pradesh, at a cost of ₹2,352 crore, which will divert excess water from the Chenab tributary, the Chandra River, into the Beas basin through hydraulic structures. Additionally, a sediment-bypass tunnel will be constructed at the Salal Dam in Jammu and Kashmir at a cost of ₹268 crore. This historic inter-basin river linking project will ensure that the water of Chandra River flows into Beas instead of going to Pakistan, which will not only increase power generation in Himachal but will also provide huge benefits to Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.

He claimed that the first phase of results had resulted in the victory of public representatives aligned with the BJP’s ideology in most constituencies, and that the public had given a clear mandate against the anti-people policies of the Congress government in the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections. He also expressed serious concern over the functioning of some administrative officials working under political pressure from the Congress government. The Leader of the Opposition alleged that despite peaceful elections across the state, a select few officials did not play an impartial role in this grand festival of democracy. Complaints of laxity and rigging in the electoral process have been received from several areas, highlighting government obstruction in the path of a clean and transparent democratic election process.
