Shimla:
BJP State Vice President Bihari Lal Sharma on Wednesday launched a strong attack on the Congress party, stating that raising questions about EVMs and constitutional institutions reflects the party’s frustration after electoral defeats.
Sharma made these remarks while welcoming BJP State In-Charge Shrikant Sharma at the BJP headquarters Deepakmal Chakkar BJP Office in Shimla.
During the visit, an important organizational meeting was held with BJP State Organisation General Secretary Siddharthan and other senior party leaders to discuss preparations for the upcoming Panchayat Raj and Municipal elections. The meeting focused on booth-level strengthening, election strategies, organizational expansion, responsibilities of party workers, and the current political situation in the state.
Sharma described Shrikant Sharma’s visit as extremely significant in view of the upcoming elections.
On the occasion, Shrikant Sharma also congratulated party workers on the BJP’s historic victory in three states, including West Bengal, saying the results reflect the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the hard work of BJP workers, and the trust of the people.
Targeting the Congress party and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Bihari Lal Sharma said the opposition has made it a habit to question EVMs and constitutional institutions after every defeat. He emphasized that political battles in a democracy should be fought on the basis of ideology, public support, and organizational strength.
He alleged that Congress raises questions about EVMs when it loses elections but remains silent when it wins, citing the party’s alliance victory in Kerala. According to him, this reflects the party’s double standards.
Sharma also pointed out that Congress governments in Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana were formed through the same electoral process and EVM system.
Criticizing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Sharma claimed that the party has faced repeated electoral defeats under his leadership. He added that if the trend continues, the Congress could reach a “century of defeats” by 2027.
He further stated that over the past decade, significant reforms have been carried out under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, including the repeal of many outdated colonial-era laws and the introduction of new legislation aimed at improving governance and public welfare.
Sharma also criticized the Indian National Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, alleging that development work in the state has stalled, unemployment and corruption have increased, and the law-and-order situation has deteriorated.
Expressing confidence in the party’s prospects, he said the Bharatiya Janata Party would receive overwhelming public support in the upcoming Panchayat Raj and municipal elections, and predicted a major defeat for Congress.
