Bhoranj 29 November. The Social Justice and Empowerment Department organized a dialogue session (GEM Session) in the university campus on Friday in collaboration with Career Point University Kharwad under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction. In this session, Secretary of District Legal Services Authority and Senior Civil Judge Aslam Beg participated as the chief guest and SDM of Bhoranj Shashipal Sharma participated as the special guest and guided the students.
On this occasion, Aslam Beg said that the problem of drug addiction is increasing continuously. Especially, the young generation is getting caught in it very fast. He said that it is like a termite for the society which can hollow out our young generation from inside. By consuming drugs, a person not only harms himself physically, but also spoils his family as well as the social environment. Aslam Beg said that strict laws like NDPS Act have been made to stop drug addiction, but every citizen should come forward to completely eradicate this problem.
He said that the government has launched several awareness campaigns to destroy illegal drug crops, seize drugs, take strict action against the smugglers involved in these, as well as to make the common people aware of the ill effects of drugs. He said that such programs should be held in all educational institutions. The Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority also made the students aware of the various provisions of the NDPS Act and various schemes of the National Legal Services Authority.
SDM Shashipal Sharma said that many times students start smoking or consuming drugs in the early years by imitating their friends or as a fashion and then become addicted to them. He said that in this age of tough competition, many youths are inclined towards drugs due to not being able to fulfil the expectations of parents and due to stress. All the youths should avoid this tendency.
On this occasion, Bhoranj police station in-charge, Somakshi Dhiman from Samagra Rehabilitation Center Hamirpur, Health Educator Amardeep Sharma of Health Department and other officials also shared much important information on the problem of drug addiction. District Welfare Officer Baldev Chandel welcomed the chief guest, special guest and all the speakers and gave detailed information about the program. He also thanked the Career Point University management. Student Shilpa Thakur conducted the program.
Earlier, University Vice Chancellor Dr Sanjeev Sharma, Registrar Gulshan Sandhu and Dean (Student Welfare) Dr Saurabh Kumar welcomed the chief guest and other guests.
