Devendra Kumar Sharma, President, International Commission on large dam’s and Former Chairman, HPERC received award for ‘National Honour for Global Leadership in Dam Safety’
The Aqua Foundation (AF) Academy and the Europen Association of Geoscientists and Engineers(EAGE) organized the third “Indian Near Surface Geophysics” Conference in New Delhi on 13th &14th November, 2025 at Hotel the Surya, New Delhi. Near surface geophysics is currently being used in India and world wide for applications in hydropower and pumped storage plants, dams,archeology, environmental science, forensic science, mining, ground water, military intelligence,geo technical investigation in, mineral exploration, and hydrogeology. Experts from India and abroad presented technical papers during the Conference.
During the inaugural ceremony of the Conference “Global Near Surface Geophysics Awards” and“Dam Safety Awards” were presented. Mr Devendra Kumar Sharma, President, international commission on Large Dams was bestowed award for ‘National Honour for Global Leadership in dam Safety’. During his address, Mr Sharma dedicated this award to his family members and to his team members who worked with him throughout his career and helped him to grow professionally.

Mr Sharma has more than 44 years of experience in energy and water resources sectors in India and abroad. He is currently President of the International Commission on Large Dams and former chairman of Himachal Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission. Prior to joining the regulatory Commission, he worked as Chairman, Bhakra Beas Management Board, Ministry of power, Government of India, where he was responsible for managing assets of National Importance, viz, dams and six power houses of having aggregate capacity of 2919 MW and 3705 km long 400 KV and below transmission system. Earlier, he was Managing Director of himachal Power Corporation Ltd. (a Govt. of Himachal Pradesh Undertaking). Mr Sharma has a rural background and comes from a small village Mehrin Kathla (Khasri) in district Bilaspur,
