Junga, Shimla, September 28: The three-day district-level Major Sports Competition for Under-19 girls concluded at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Junga, on Monday with a cultural programme and prize distribution ceremony.
As many as 165 girl students from 18 schools across Shimla district participated in various sporting events during the competition.
Assistant Commissioner and Tehsildar Junga Kartikeya Sharma attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest, while Zila Parishad member from Kasumpti ward Raja Khush Vikram Singh was the special guest. Principal Mahesh Sharma, members of the School Management Committee and sports in-charges welcomed the guests and presented them with mementoes.
In the football final, the host Junga School defeated Sunni School to lift the winners’ trophy. Junga School also emerged victorious in hockey, with Sunni School finishing runners-up.
In basketball, Matiana School secured the first position, followed by Portmore School in second place. SPS Sarahan won the handball title, while Chiyog School finished runners-up. In athletics, MPS Fagu emerged as the overall champion.
Congratulating the winners and runners-up, Kartikeya Sharma said sports play an important role in the physical development of students while also helping develop leadership qualities, discipline and self-confidence. He appreciated the school management for conducting the competition successfully and in a disciplined manner.
The chief guest distributed trophies and prizes among the winning and runner-up teams.
Principal Mahesh Sharma thanked the chief guest, special guest, participating teams, sports officials and physical education teachers for their contribution to the successful conduct of the event. He said Junga School had remained champion in hockey and football for three consecutive years, reflecting the sporting talent and hard work of its students.
School sports in-charge Suman Chauhan also thanked everyone who contributed to the successful organisation of the competition.
The three-day district-level championship concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
