A fire broke out late Friday night in a private hotel located in the Kachighati area of Himachal Pradesh’s capital, Shimla. A tourist from Maharashtra died in this incident, while his two companions were burned. Three rooms of the hotel were burnt to ashes in the fire. As soon as the incident was reported, half a dozen fire brigade vehicles reached the spot, and after several hours of effort, the fire was brought under control. Police have registered a case in this matter, holding the hotel owner’s negligence responsible. According to the information, at around 11:30 pm, room number 106 of the Rama Bed and Breakfast (B&B) Hotel located in Kachighati caught fire. Three youths from Maharashtra were staying in this room. When all three were sleeping in the room, suddenly a fire broke out.
There was chaos when the room filled with smoke and flames rose. Two youths somehow managed to escape, but one got caught in the fire and got trapped inside. By the time the fire brigade team reached the spot, he was severely burned. Due to this, he died. The deceased has been identified as Ritesh Pudale (24), a resident of Koregaon, District Sangli, Maharashtra. Ashish and Avdhoot Patil of Maharashtra have been admitted to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Hospital Shimla for treatment.
Shimla Police has informed the family of the deceased youth. The post-mortem of the body will be done at IGMC Hospital on Saturday, after which it will be handed over to the family. The condition of both the burnt tourists is said to be stable. Police said that the cause of the fire is being investigated. An investigation is also being conducted regarding safety standards and an effective firefighting system in the hotel. Police are questioning the hotel management.
